Between July 2022 and June 2023 only 281,000 babies were born in Poland.
It represents a rate of 1.26 babies per one woman. In order, to keep the population
at its current rate, what is needed is a rate of 2.1 babies per one woman.
If the trend which have manifested itself during the second half of 2023 continues, less than
280,000 babies are to be born in 2023. This trend is below the average European
rate, ( low in itself ) which stands at 1.5 - 1.6 babies per one woman.
the reasons for this gloomy data are: high cost of living, high interest rates,
high rate of inflation, restrictions on abortion and the war in Ukraina, which
increases feelings of in security among the Polish Population.
Emigration has always been part of Polish culture. there were times when
Chicago was the biggest Polish city. save for the fact that about 1.5 million
Ukrainians are currently residing in Poland we would have already witnessed
a noticeable decline in the number of residents in Poland. Further more as
in their fertility age. Since in vitro procedures are not easily available this in turn exacerbates efforts to increase fertility. As the average age of woman increases you find less and less women
in their fertility age. Since in vitro procedures are not easily available, this in turn exacerbates
efforts to increase production of babies. there comes a time, when an increased average of
women who are over the fertility age makes impossible to reverse the trend.
decrease in the population will inevitably lead to a decrease of the labour force,
a reduction in consumption and a reduction in GDP.
